Why is attending the International Ombuds Association Annual Conference so critical?

(Borrow this language for an email seeking permission to attend)

One of a Kind Chance to Expand your knowledge: Whether it is a new technique, an issue relating to DEIB, or unpacking your understanding of neutrality, we have you covered.  The IOA Annual Conference gives you the opportunity to talk to presenters one-on-one about what they are working on, and they may even give you advice on how to enhance your own work.

Find Solutions to Problems: Chances are, the issues and trends you see in your organization are similar to those seen in other organizations. The IOA Annual Conference is a prime way to discuss how others are addressing comparable issues with training and other conflict interventions - including what has worked and what has not.

Network: The IOA Annual Conference brings together ombuds from different geographical areas and sectors around the world and is a great way to meet new people in the field. A majority of Organizational Ombuds work alone and are not part of an ombuds team, so connecting with others who do this work day in and day out is invaluable and critical for YOUR mental health.  You give so much to others in your organization. The IOA Annual Conference is a time to get the support you need from colleagues who understand the important and difficult work you do.

Present your Ideas and Work to Others:  Whether you are officially presenting at the IOA Annual Conference or have an issue to present at one of the many sector or community meetings,  the conference provides invaluable ways to litmus test an idea or approach.
